Uniswap Introduces Permissioned Pools on V4 for Regulated Asset Trading

Uniswap has introduced Permissioned Pools, a new v4 hook standard that enforces asset-specific compliance rules on-chain. The framework gives regulated funds, securities and tokenized equities access to automated market maker liquidity while restricting participation to approved addresses.

The standard applies compliance controls only to pools created for permissioned assets, leaving the wider Uniswap protocol open and permissionless. Asset issuers can choose whether to deploy a restricted pool without changing how ordinary v4 markets operate.

Permissions Adapter Separates Assets From Pool Accounting

The architecture centers on a Permissions Adapter that holds the underlying regulated token and issues a wrapped representation for use inside Uniswap v4’s PoolManager. Wrapping and unwrapping occur automatically through supported routing and position-management contracts, so users do not handle the temporary wrapper directly.

Each issuer retains direct administrative control over its allowlist and compliance logic. Separate permission flags determine whether an address may execute swaps, provide liquidity or perform both actions, allowing issuers to apply different eligibility standards to traders and liquidity providers.

The permissioned hook checks wallet eligibility before every swap and liquidity addition. Uniswap’s Universal Router also enforces the restrictions while wrapping the input asset, creating two validation points intended to prevent users from bypassing the allowlist through alternative routing.

Issuers can pause or resume swaps, replace the allowlist checker and approve or revoke routing contracts. They may also force an LP position to unwind when regulatory or eligibility conditions require it, although the underlying assets are routed back to the holder whenever that address remains authorized to receive them.

Compliance Controls Reshape Liquidity Provider Rights

Liquidity positions inside these pools are represented by non-transferable NFTs, preventing an approved holder from transferring a position to an address outside the allowlist. LPs can still decrease or close their positions even after losing permission, while the issuer retains a separate administrative unwinding mechanism.

Uniswap describes the framework as non-custodial despite its permissioned access controls. Funds can leave through ordinary PoolManager settlement processes, including swaps, liquidity withdrawals and claim redemptions, while issuer administrators cannot directly extract assets through the wrapper contract.

Launch collaborators include Superstate, Securitize and Dowgo, with the standard designed for tokenized funds, securities, equities and other regulated instruments. Superstate contributed to the design for tokenized funds and equities, while Dowgo worked on ERC-3643 compatibility.

The rollout gives regulated issuers access to AMM liquidity without surrendering transfer restrictions or investor-verification requirements. It also creates a clear dependency for users: participation and liquidity access remain subject to issuer-controlled allowlists, policy changes and administrative intervention.

Permissioned Pools establish a reusable compliance layer for regulated assets on Uniswap v4, but adoption remains unmeasured. The next indicators will be live issuer deployments, pool liquidity, trading volume and whether institutional asset managers accept the balance between on-chain settlement and centralized eligibility control.
