Ritual is expanding its public testnet infrastructure as the decentralized AI project moves toward a future production network. The Ritual Chain developer documentation currently lists Chain ID 1979 alongside HTTP and WebSocket RPC endpoints, a block explorer and a faucet for developers. The available tooling gives teams a live environment for deploying and testing AI-native applications before Ritual advances to mainnet.
The documentation identifies RITUAL as the network’s 18-decimal testnet currency, used for transaction fees, contract deployment and interaction with Ritual’s specialized execution functions. That should not be confused with a publicly tradable production token. Ritual Foundation’s official testnet terms state that testnet tokens have no monetary value and will never convert into, or accrue rights to, mainnet tokens or other digital assets. Ritual has therefore established testnet economics without confirming a tradable mainnet token.
Testnet Targets AI-Native Execution
Ritual’s architecture is designed around workloads that conventional blockchains struggle to execute directly. Its documentation describes an EVM-based system in which ordinary deterministic transactions are replicated across validators, while workloads such as LLM inference, HTTP requests, multimodal generation and autonomous-agent execution can be delegated to Trusted Execution Environment, or TEE, executors. The model attempts to keep blockchain settlement and verification while avoiding the requirement that every validator independently rerun expensive AI computations.
Developers can already experiment with precompiles for LLMs, ONNX inference, autonomous agents, scheduled execution, privacy tooling and external HTTP calls. Longer-running operations can execute asynchronously and return their results to smart contracts through callback transactions. The testnet is consequently testing more than basic transfers: it is exposing the execution primitives Ritual wants developers to use for persistent agents and verifiable off-chain computation.
That focus fits a wider effort to make autonomous AI systems interoperable and accountable. The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology’s AI Agent Standards Initiative identifies secure agent identity, interoperability and open protocols as important requirements for broader adoption of autonomous software. Ritual approaches those challenges through blockchain-based execution and settlement, although its testnet deployment does not yet demonstrate production-scale reliability or adoption.
Mainnet Timeline Remains Unconfirmed
The current developer documentation does not provide a mainnet activation date, and Ritual’s testnet terms explicitly allow the Foundation to modify, reset or discontinue the testing environment. The existence of RPC infrastructure, validators and developer tooling shows that Ritual has progressed beyond a conceptual network, but it does not establish that mainnet is imminent.
The more meaningful indicators now will be recurring use of Ritual-specific capabilities, including AI inference, autonomous agents, scheduled workloads and verifiable computation, rather than raw testnet transaction counts alone. Ritual’s next milestone is turning its functioning developer environment into a permissionless production network with sustained application demand, while clarifying mainnet economics and any eventual token structure.
