However, the version itself belongs to Solana’s 2024 validator upgrade cycle rather than a new 2026 infrastructure rollout, making the timeline critical when interpreting the figure.
Anza’s official v1.18 release schedule shows that Solana began moving mainnet-beta validators onto v1.18 in May 2024 and recommended that all nodes upgrade during the week of June 10. That documentation places the v1.18 adoption milestone more than two years before the current reports presenting it as fresh network activity.
Solana v1.18 Was a 2024 Upgrade
The v1.18 release did introduce meaningful infrastructure changes. Its official changelog included a central scheduler option for block production alongside other validator and RPC improvements. Transaction scheduling was one of the notable areas of development in the release, but broader claims about block propagation or state contention should not be treated as newly deployed features without more specific technical sourcing.
Validator adoption mattered during the original rollout because Solana needed a large share of stake running compatible software before relying on the upgraded client across mainnet. A supermajority moving onto the same release reduces operational fragmentation during a network upgrade, but that does not mean every validator must remain on that version permanently.

In July 2026, the Solana Foundation said mainnet validators were registering BLS public keys as part of preparations for Alpenglow consensus, demonstrating that the network’s current validator work is focused on substantially newer infrastructure than the v1.18 cycle.
That does not diminish the historical significance of v1.18. The upgrade represented an important stage in Solana’s effort to improve transaction processing and validator performance during periods of heavy activity. The issue is timing: an old adoption milestone should not be presented as evidence of a new 2026 software migration.
