BNB Chain has completed its 37th quarterly token burn, permanently removing more than 1.64 million BNB from supply. The BNB Foundation destroyed exactly 1,646,196.44 BNB, valued at approximately $1.197 billion when the burn was reported, reducing the remaining total supply to 131,512,085 BNB.
According to the official BNB Chain announcement, the October 19 event forms part of the network’s Auto-Burn program. BNB’s supply-reduction mechanism is designed to continue until total supply reaches 100 million tokens, with each quarterly amount determined algorithmically rather than through discretionary exchange activity.
The Auto-Burn formula incorporates BNB’s market price and the number of blocks produced on BNB Smart Chain during the quarter. The mechanism is independently auditable and operates separately from Binance’s centralized exchange, while its parameters have been adjusted as faster block production changed the assumptions underlying the original formula.
Auto-Burn and Gas Burning Reduce Supply Differently
Following BNB Chain Fusion and the retirement of Beacon Chain, quarterly Auto-Burn executions now occur directly on BNB Smart Chain, with the designated amount sent to the network’s inaccessible blackhole address. The migration consolidated several functions that previously operated across BNB Chain’s dual-chain architecture.
BNB also uses a separate real-time burn mechanism introduced through BEP-95. A governance-defined portion of gas fees collected in every BSC block is permanently burned, linking this component of supply reduction to actual network usage rather than the quarterly Auto-Burn calculation.
The distinction matters when interpreting trading statistics. As of October 21, BSC held approximately $5.84 billion in DeFi TVL and processed roughly $6.5 billion in decentralized exchange volume over seven days, but DEX volume itself is not the input used to calculate real-time BNB burns. Only the gas generated by transactions contributes through BEP-95.
Network activity has nevertheless expanded alongside infrastructure changes. The earlier Osaka/Mendel hard fork introduced execution and stability improvements, while BNB Chain’s broader 2026 engineering roadmap targets 20,000 TPS with sub-second finality rather than treating that figure as an already achieved Osaka performance level.
BNB Chain Expands Utility Alongside Supply Reduction
The burn arrives as BNB Chain continues broadening activity around payments and tokenized assets. Its zero-fee stablecoin campaign currently covers eligible USDC, USD1 and U transfers through October 31, although the promotion subsidizes selected routes rather than eliminating gas fees across BSC generally.
Tokenized assets have added another source of network activity, with BNB Chain becoming a significant venue for stock-linked products and other RWAs. PancakeSwap, for example, has reported more than $1 billion in tokenized-asset trading volume, but trading volume, assets issued and capital deposited into DeFi remain separate measures of adoption.
The quarterly burn also incorporates the Pioneer Burn Program. Under that framework, eligible BNB and pegged tokens lost through qualifying user mistakes can be reimbursed, with the corresponding amount counted toward the official quarterly burn, preventing the recovery process from increasing effective supply.
The 37th burn therefore extends a supply-reduction model operating through multiple mechanisms rather than a single deflationary event. With approximately 131.5 million BNB remaining after the latest execution, the Auto-Burn program still has more than 31 million tokens to remove before reaching its 100 million supply target.
