TRON Overtakes Ethereum in USDT Supply

TRON ended the third quarter of 2026 ahead of Ethereum in circulating USDT, marking a change in the distribution of Tether liquidity across major blockchains. TRON held $92.35 billion in USDT on September 30, compared with Ethereum’s $86.69 billion, according to data highlighted by Onchain Lens.

The shift developed over the course of the quarter rather than at quarter-end alone. Token Terminal data shows TRON briefly moved ahead in July before establishing a sustained lead from July 23. Its official Q3 report put average USDT supply at $90.75 billion, versus $87.73 billion on Ethereum. TRON therefore led Ethereum both on the quarterly average and at the September 30 snapshot.

USDT Becomes Even More Central to TRON

Stablecoins remain the dominant component of TRON’s financial activity. Token Terminal reported average stablecoin supply of $92.25 billion during Q3, up 4.18% from the previous quarter, while USDT represented roughly 98.4% of that average. TRON’s stablecoin ecosystem remains unusually concentrated around a single dollar-pegged asset, even as other products gradually expand onto the network.

That concentration sits behind much of TRON’s settlement activity. Stablecoin transfer volume reached $2.18 trillion during Q3, according to Token Terminal, while separate TRON research calculated approximately $2.21 trillion using a slightly different reporting methodology. The network had already surpassed $30 trillion in cumulative transaction volume during September. Transfer volume measures value moved onchain, however, and should not be interpreted as equivalent new capital or unique payment activity.

TRON has also been expanding the infrastructure available around those balances. Its integration with Fireblocks Flow added another route for stablecoin payments and institutional settlement, while USDe and sUSDe became available through Stargate Finance. Those integrations broaden the network’s stablecoin infrastructure without demonstrating that USDT’s dominant share has materially declined.

Ethereum Still Leads the Broader Stablecoin Market

The USDT comparison does not mean TRON has overtaken Ethereum across all stablecoins. Current DefiLlama data places Ethereum’s total stablecoin market capitalization at roughly $139 billion, supported by substantial USDC, USDS, DAI, USDe and other balances alongside USDT. Ethereum therefore retains a considerably more diversified and larger overall stablecoin base despite losing the USDT lead.

Current TRON figures also depend on the data source. TRONSCAN reports approximately $94.24 billion in USDT supply in early November, extending the increase from the $92.35 billion quarter-end balance. Other stablecoin trackers use different methodologies and can produce somewhat different totals. The safest comparison is therefore to keep quarterly averages, quarter-end snapshots and current supply readings separate rather than treating them as interchangeable figures.

TRON’s Q3 milestone ultimately reflects a redistribution within the USDT market rather than a wholesale change in stablecoin leadership. Ethereum still hosts more stablecoin value overall, while TRON has become the largest individual network for Tether supply. The distinction shows how stablecoin infrastructure can fragment by asset even when the broader market remains concentrated on a different blockchain.
