XRP Ledger v3.3.0 Upgrade Targets RWA Tokenization and Privacy

XRP Ledger has released version 3.3.0 of xrpld, its reference server implementation, introducing six amendments that expand the network’s transaction, token and account-management capabilities. The upgrade brings new tools for confidential token transfers, atomic transaction batches and sponsored account costs, features that could be particularly relevant to issuers building regulated or institutional tokenization products on XRPL.

The release includes ConfidentialTransfer, BatchV1_1, DynamicMPT, PermissionDelegationV1_1, Sponsor and a bundled protocol fix called fixCleanup3_3_0. These amendments are included in the software but are not automatically active on XRP Ledger Mainnet, since protocol-level changes must complete the network’s validator approval process before becoming permanent.

Confidential Transfers Add a Privacy Layer to MPTs

ConfidentialTransfer introduces private transfers for Multi-Purpose Tokens, or MPTs, using EC-ElGamal cryptography and zero-knowledge proofs. The design keeps balances and transfer amounts cryptographically verifiable on-ledger while concealing the actual amounts from public view. The amendment would add transaction privacy without removing the ledger’s ability to verify that confidential transfers are valid.

That capability complements XRPL‘s existing MPT framework, which includes issuer controls such as transfer restrictions, supply limits, fees, freezing and clawback functionality. The official XRPL documentation also explicitly supports an rwa classification for tokens representing legally enforceable claims on physical or off-chain financial assets. Together, these controls provide infrastructure that can accommodate more structured tokenized-asset models.

BatchV1_1 adds atomic execution for as many as eight inner transactions, allowing the entire group to succeed or fail together. PermissionDelegationV1_1 lets accounts grant selected transaction permissions to other accounts, while Sponsor allows companies, issuers or other entities to cover transaction fees and reserve requirements for users. Those features could reduce operational friction where several parties, permissions and transaction steps are involved.

Previously Withdrawn Features Return in Revised Form

BatchV1_1 replaces an earlier Batch amendment that was disabled after a security issue, while PermissionDelegationV1_1 supersedes its original implementation after a critical bug was identified. Their return in version 3.3.0 reflects revised implementations rather than the simple restoration of the previously proposed code.

DynamicMPT adds another layer of issuer flexibility by making selected MPT properties mutable by default, including on-chain metadata, transfer fees and certain issuance capabilities. Issuers can subsequently make those properties permanently immutable. This gives token issuers more flexibility during an asset’s lifecycle while preserving the option to lock selected parameters permanently.

Mainnet activation ultimately remains in the hands of XRP Ledger validators. Under XRPL‘s amendment system, a proposal must maintain support from more than 80% of trusted validators for two consecutive weeks before becoming enabled. Version 3.3.0 therefore makes the new functionality available for validator consideration, but installation of the software alone does not activate the amendments across the network.
