Ethena Pay Launches Earn+ With Up to 12% APY

Ethena Pay has launched Earn+, an optional DeFi product offering users up to 12% APY on part of their dollar balance through an externally operated on-chain vault. According to the official launch announcement, the feature moves funds out of the user’s standard Ethena Pay balance and into infrastructure provided by Upshift, with Steakhouse running the underlying strategy through Aave V4 on Avalanche. Earn+ initially expands the app’s yield options beyond the standard balance rewards of up to 6% APY.

The product has an initial aggregate capacity of $4.5 million. Individual allocations are capped at $20,000 for Standard users, $50,000 for Pro and $200,000 for VIP accounts. Earn+ has no contractual lock-up, but withdrawals are processed rather than instantaneous and are expected to return to the user’s main USD balance within 24 hours. Ethena Pay charges no deposit or withdrawal fee, although the external strategy remains subject to its own operational and smart-contract risks.

Earn+ Uses an 11x USDe Lending Loop

The higher target return comes from leverage rather than a simple stablecoin deposit. The strategy supplies USDe as collateral into an Aave V4 market on Avalanche, borrows USDT, purchases additional USDe and repeats the process. Ethena Pay says the vault targets approximately 11x leverage, packaging a lending loop that would normally require users to manage collateral, debt and repeated transactions themselves.

Aave describes the division of responsibilities clearly: Upshift supplies the vault infrastructure, Steakhouse curates the vault and operates the strategy, while Aave V4 provides the underlying lending markets. The 12% target therefore depends on the economics of a leveraged USDe position, including the return generated by USDe relative to the cost of borrowing USDT. Changes in borrowing rates, collateral conditions or USDe economics can alter the return available to depositors.

That structure also makes Earn+ materially different from Ethena Pay’s standard Daily Boost. Main-account balances can earn up to 6% depending on the user’s tier and eligibility, while funds transferred into Earn+ stop receiving that incentive. Users are exchanging the simpler reward structure of the main balance for exposure to a leveraged third-party DeFi strategy with a higher variable target. Ethena Pay explicitly states that Earn+ is not operated, custodied or guaranteed by the company.

Consumer Apps Package DeFi Yield Behind Simpler Interfaces

Earn+ extends a broader trend of consumer applications placing DeFi infrastructure behind familiar account interfaces. Robinhood Chain uses Ethena-linked assets within its retail lending architecture, where Morpho and Steakhouse similarly separate the user-facing product from the underlying credit infrastructure. The common design principle is abstraction: users interact with a simplified interface while specialized protocols manage lending and collateral underneath.

Ethena’s assets are simultaneously expanding across other networks. USDe and sUSDe recently became available on TRON through Stargate, while the USDe/USDT pool on Curve has demonstrated high trading utilization. Those integrations broaden distribution, but Earn+ adds a different layer by actively leveraging USDe to target a higher return rather than simply making the asset transferable or liquid.

The trade-off is correspondingly larger. Ethena Pay warns that third-party technology failures, protocol losses and withdrawal delays can affect users, and Earn+ balances are not bank deposits or covered by deposit insurance. The headline 12% rate is therefore compensation targeted from a leveraged DeFi strategy, not a savings-account guarantee. Its sustainability will depend on live USDe returns, USDT borrowing costs and the risk parameters maintained by Steakhouse and Aave V4.
